EMCOR Marelich Construction Workers & Kaiser Permanente Employees Form 4th Largest Pink Ribbon Ever In The U.S. at Kaiser Permanente San Leandro Medical Center
EMCOR Mechanical and client Kaiser Permanente joined forces on October 3 to form a 500+ person Pink Hard Hat Ribbon---the 4th largest human pink ribbon ever formed in the U.S.---a visual kick-off for Breast Cancer Awareness Month and call to action for EMCOR’s “Protect Yourself. Get Screened Today.” Campaign. An official EMCOR Pink Hard Hat plaque was presented by EMCOR Marelich President & CEO, Keith Atteberry to Kaiser Permanente leaders Tom Hanenburg, Sr. Vice President & Area Mgr; Robert Greenberg, M.D., Physician-in-Chief; Calvin Wheeler, M.D., Physician-in-Chief; and Dr. Ernie Bodai, Breast Health Center Director and creator of the U.S. Breast Cancer Research Stamp. The event was held at Kaiser Permanente’s new San Leandro Medical Center under construction in San Leandro, CA.
HAYWARD, CALIFORNIA, October 3, 2013 – Marelich Mechanical announced that today 500+ of its employees and those of its client Kaiser Permanente, and more, donned Pink Hard Hats and assembled into a giant pink ribbon, EMCOR’s “signature” event, in a "Call to Action" in support of breast cancer awareness as part of EMCOR’s "Protect Yourself. Get Screened Today." Campaign.
The 4th largest human pink ribbon ever formed in the U.S. was held at the construction site of the new Kaiser Permanente San Leandro Medical Center in San Leandro, California. This was the second year the companies have joined forces to form a massive ribbon; last year’s ribbon event involved 400+ participants.

As part of a special ceremony, Keith Atteberry, President & CEO of EMCOR Marelich, presented an official EMCOR Pink Hard Hat plaque to Kaiser Permanente’s leaders, including Tom Hanenburg, Senior Vice President & Area Mgr; Robert Greenberg, M.D., Physician-in-Chief; Calvin Wheeler, M.D., Physician-in-Chief; and Dr. Ernie Bodai, Breast Health Center Director and creator of the U.S. Breast Cancer Research Stamp.
During the event, construction workers from EMCOR Marelich and Rudolph & Sletten, the general contractor on the project, removed their regular hard hats and replaced them with Pink Hard Hats.
“Kaiser Permanente is pleased to team up with EMCOR and the ‘Protect Yourself.’ Campaign in this memorable and visual way to increase awareness of breast cancer screening,” stated Tom Hanenburg. “The Pink Hard Hat initiative is an innovative way to remind women and men to make an appointment for a mammogram.”

EMCOR and its clients are forming five human Pink Hard Hat Ribbons across the U.S. this October in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Additionally, thousands of EMCOR employees coast to coast are wearing Pink Hard Hats at hundreds of construction sites---ranging from hospitals, roadways, malls, and high tech companies, to universities, military bases, and hotels.
Further, EMCOR’s fleet of 7,000+ service vehicles are carrying the message of “Protect Yourself. Get Screened Today.” to millions of people every day throughout October by displaying EMCOR Pink Hard Hat posters.
